Action-A-Day 5/14 Service Sunday

In honor of Mother's Day and women in general, here are a few Service Sunday ideas for your consideration.

Is there a female friend or neighbor in your life who has been like a mom to you and could use a little extra support? Maybe she is missing her own children or never had children of her own. Or perhaps you know a single mom who could use some support.

Show her how much you care with one of these easy ideas either today or in the near future: Get together for a painting class, take her out to a show or a concert, or check in for a pedicure together. Treat her to the movies, an afternoon tea or invite her to a family game night. Drop off a coffee, some flowers or a fruit basket. Schedule a time to help her with some errands or house or yard work. Or just pick up the phone and call to let her know you are thinking of her!

Does volunteering in the community appeal more to you?

Rape Crisis Center
Consider signing up to volunteer at our local Rape Crisis Center as a hotline volunteer. The hotline volunteer is someone who can provide emotional and practical support to victims of sexual violence. Training is provided. Or sign up to volunteer at their October fundraiser "A Culinary Experience." They also accept donations. Click here to learn more and apply:

The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society has many opportunities for volunteering, and a couple of them are geared toward helping women:

Look Good Feel Better: Help patients learn beauty techniques and feel better about themselves during cancer treatment through in-person workshops.
