Action-A-Day 4/6: Rally For More MD HR676 Support

ACTION: Write letters to the three Maryland members of the House of Representative who have not yet signed on as co-sponsors of HR 676 Expanded & Improved Medicare for All Act. Consider printing a copy of the PNHP Single Payer vs ACA FAQ sheet to send with your letter.

SAMPLE POSTCARD/LETTER SCRIPT (Please make this your own): Americans need and want affordable healthcare that will cover EVERYONE and will bring costs down by reducing administrative waste and private insurance company profit. Single payer systems are top notch in many of the world’s developed nations while the US is lagging behind. Single payer systems are pro-business as they reduce employee benefit costs for employers and employees are easier to retain without health insurance benefits being a factor. The benefits of single payer are immense for all American business owners, from the family owned storefront to the largest of corporations. Please support HR 676 as the only health reform plan that is both fiscally and socially responsible.

SAMPLE PHONE SCRIPT: My name is [insert name] and I am a Marylander who desperately wants to see health coverage for all Americans. I am calling to ask [insert elected official] to support HR 676 as the only health reform plan that is both fiscally and socially responsible. Will [insert elected official] be signing on as a co-sponsor for this bill?

ADDITIONAL ACTION: Write/call to your US Senators to ask them to co-sponsor a companion bill to HR 676 in the US Senate. Senator Bernie Sanders has announced he will be introducing a companion bill, but at the time of this writing, it has not been introduced.

BACKGROUND: On 3/24/17 HR 1628 The American Health Care Act of 2017 was pulled from the House of Representatives, minutes before a vote was supposed to take place, due to an immense lack of support from both Democrats and a large group of Republicans. HR 676 would provide coverage for all Americans, regardless of demographic. For more on the single payer plan, consider attending the Healthcare is a Human Right Carroll County Chapter for their monthly meeting, TONIGHT.
