ACTION: Create a Resistance Self-Care Plan to help cultivate the internal resourcefulness and strength to stay on course.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: We know that self-care is an important part of resisting to combat fatigue. Focusing on our own well-being helps us to feel energized and resourceful so that we can maintain momentum in the weeks and months to come. The concept of self-care as an important part of resisting has roots in the Civil Rights Movement in the 60’s and the Women’s Movement in the 70’s. History has taught us that it is important to nourish ourselves in order to continue to fight.
This week, the Action Checklist for Americans of Conscience included a Self-Care Worksheet on “Creating a Resistance Self-Care Plan”, shared by Jen Hofmann. The goal of this checklist is to cultivate internal resourcefulness for physical welfare as well as mental and emotional health.
Using this checklist as a guide, create your own resistance self-care plan by taking stock of your current state in order to identify sources of positivity and negativity, and then making a plan to eliminate physical and mental stressors that drain your energy and replacing them with positive actions and things you CAN do!
