The bill passed in the House of Delegates and already has support from Governor Hogan. I am deeply concerned about the environmental impact of fracking. BACKGROUND: On 3/10/17 the Maryland House of Delegates voted to pass HB 1325 Oil and Natural Gas – Hydraulic Fracturing – Prohibition aka “The Maryland Fracking Ban”. On 3/23/27 the Maryland Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs committee voted favorably on the bill, which means it will be coming up for vote on the Senate Floor. Senator Gail Bates of District 9 serves on the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs committee and voted against the bill. Governor Hogan has already publicly claimed to support a ban on fracking in Maryland which came as a pleasant surprise to supporters of the bill.
