Action-A-Day 3/23: Act to preserve funding for culture and arts

ACTION: Let Congress know Americans want independent cultural agencies funded by sending the form letter at EveryLibrary.org. After you submit your letter, share the link via email and social media to rally additional support.

ADDITIONAL ACTION: Call your federal elected officials to make an even bigger impact, using the simple sample script below. You can find your elected officials here.

SAMPLE SCRIPT: My name is ______ from (city/state). I am calling to tell (Representative/Senator) to vote to preserve funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The small amount of funding that these agencies receive from the annual federal budget make a huge impact on communities small and large all across the nation. Do we have (Representative/Senator)’s support on this issue?

BACKGROUND: The proposed federal budget for 2018 calls for the complete defunding of 4 independent cultural agencies. The agencies that are facing elimination are the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Presently, these agencies receive $1B (0.02%) of the annual federal budget and the proposed budget completely eliminates that funding.
