Official Carroll-CAN#Action #Calltoaction#FederalCallToAction for Friday2/3/2017
ACTION: Three actions to Stop Betsy DeVos Confirmation:
1. SIGN a MoveOn petition: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/stop-betsy-devos and then share it on Facebook and Twitter or by email.
2. Do you have friends or family in Maine or Alaska? Ask them to thank Republican Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) for their support and ask them to speak to and attempt to sway any colleagues who may be on the fence. Here are their contact pages:
3. CONTACT your Democratic senators (and get your friends to) by phone or email and make this reasonable request:
SCRIPT: Hello, I am [NAME], a constituent from [STATE]. Will you promise not only to vote against each Trump nominee, but also promise to work with fellow Senators to withhold "consent" at each and every stage of the their confirmations — do not agree to "unanimous consent" for even the most minor procedural step. Neither Trump nor his unqualified nominees, especially Betsy DeVos, deserve the courtesy of a single consent. Can I count on Senator [XXX] to withhold consent?
BACKGROUND INFO: With the GOP-Democrat split in the Senate at 52-48, "no" votes from Collins and Murkowski—and a party-line vote from Democrats—would tie the count at 50, leaving Vice President Mike Pence to cast the deciding vote. Let’s get one more dissenting Republican.

That tool lies in the simple but fitting act of withholding consent. An organized effort to do so on the Senate floor can bring the body to its knees and block or severely slow down the agenda of a president who does not represent the majority of Americans. “ Read more here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2017/01/27/democrats-in-congress-can-block-trumps-agenda-if-they-want-to-heres-how/?utm_term=.80ecd8aaa9ca
